Sam est orpheline depuis qu'elle est toute petite mais elle a été recueillie par sa belle-mère. Hélàs, celle-ci est une mégère qui l'exploite quotidiennement, tout comme ses deux filles. Au lycée, la situation n'est pas meilleure car la jeune est très seule. Elle discute seulement avec un mystérieux jeune homme sur internet et ils décident un jour de se rencontrer. Sam voit alors au rendez-vous Austin, le garçon le plus populaire du lycée ! Effrayée, elle part rapidement en laissant tomber son téléphone portable... Il va alors tout faire pour retrouver sa propriétaire.
