L’histoire a lieu des années après la crise d’identité subie par Tess et Anna, les personnages joués par Jamie Lee Curtis et Lindsay Lohan. Anna est à son tour mère d’une fille et aura bientôt une belle-fille. Confrontées aux défis que pose une famille recomposée, les deux femmes vont découvrir que dans leur cas, la foudre peut frapper deux fois au même endroit.
