Dans le sud du Bronx à New York, le quartier le plus malfamé de la ville, se trouve un commissériat que l'on a surnommé "Fort Apache", sorte d'avant-poste en terrain ennenmi. L'officier Murphy sous ses airs de personnage cynique, tente de faire régner la justice.
