Un adolescent, Ronald, cause involontairement la mort d'une jeune fille sur une plage. Afin que le police ne le retrouve pas, sa mère l'enferme dans un réduit, sous l'escalier de la maison. A la mort de celle-ci, la demeure est louée à une famille anglaise.
