Annie assassine son mari avec la complicité de son amant, en espérant profiter de son assurance-vie. Lorsqu'elle s'aperçoit que ce dernier l'a doublée, elle quitte la ville. Quatre ans plus tard, après avoir changé d'identité et épousé un homme riche, elle le retrouve lors d'un gala de charité.
